Books I´m reading

After having read "Angela´s Ashes" and the sequel  "´Tis" by Frank Mc Court, I´m now reading "Teacher Man".
I love this books, not only because they tell a touching true story, also because of the writer´s humor.
Grown up in the Catholic church myself, I recognize so many similarities between the characters in the book and people I know.
I´m reading it in German, they unfortunatly didn´t have the English version in our school library ( "´Tis" I read in English and liked it much better).

But I wanted to read an English book too so at the moment I´m also reading "Moll Flanders" by Daniel Defoe.

As a summer- homework we have to read an Italian Book and as a bookworm I couldn´t wait to start reading.
I choose "Eva dorme" by Francesca Melandri, it´s a novel about a South Tyrolean family, wich indirect teaches a lot about our history from the 20s till now. Some words are written in our dialect (wich is very dissimilar to the real German, I will make a post on this subject), it´s fascinating reading about places I see nearly every day!

Holydays...finally!

Having been babysitting till late the night before, I was quite tired the last day of school yesterday.
After the final mass we got our school certificates and my cousin Barbara invited us over.
We showed Grandma our marks (all four of us had quite high marks and of course she was proud of us) and enjoyed spending time together.

This morning my best friend and me went to the city and had an ice cream to celebrate the holyday´s start.
The afternoon we spend with our younger sisters (her sis is my sis´s best friend) and her two month old niece, who is such a lovely baby.

It was so good to get away from school and all the stress...but this lazy time can´t go on forever, I have to look for a summer job, find a driving school and get prepared for the bilingualism test :(

Some pictures of our mountains

I´m not a  fan of  mountain climbing, skiing, snowboarding...and all this mountains around me sometimes get

on my nerves. I love wide flat areas, where you can look as wide you can see, here in my village every half mile (in all directions) a mountain is in the way! But to say the truth, I surely would miss my mountains, if I had to go away from here. At the moment there is a terrible tempest outside and althoug I´m born here I still fear that  the mountains are falling down and bury us in our narrow dale. I  will stop writing and better switch the computer off now.

On the first picture you can see the ROSENGARTEN and on the second one the SCHLERN.On the third picture you can see one of the  places
where we use to hike and
our typic horse breed the HAFLINGER.

So many spelling faults

I still make lots of stupid mistakes. But insight is the first step towards improvement :)

A beautiful view

The Sacred Heart Fire

An old law passed by Emperor Maximilian I. said, that Tyroleans have to fight in war only if their own
land was threatened. But in April 1796 they were forced to send their young man into the war for the Emperor to fight  against the French (Tyrol wasn´t in danger this order was against the old law). After a training of only three
weeks 7000 men were send on the southern border.A small comitee (24 men from all over Tyrol) met in Bolzano to discuss this problem, when a priest said that they have to entrust their land the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
After this ceremonial oath a huge amount of volonteers followed Andreas Hofer(please get informed about him on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Hofer  THIS IS NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND THIS STORY).After they surpricely won the battle against the French and the Bavarians, Sacred Haert Sundy became a high holiday.Still today we light the fires like they did to inform each village of the upcoming rebellion.
The fires are often arranged in the form of hearts, crosses and the sign of Christ ("INRI" or "IHS") in memory of
the holy oath.
